series - Shatter Me #1
Adam Kent, Juliette Ferrars

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

My thoughts

I read this book in two days.  I am obsessed with the story.  Once I read the first few pages I was hooked.  It is amazing.  Some reviewers hate the strikeout but i think it was simply genius.  This first time author has a unique way of writing and for me its perfect.

In a not so distant future Juliette has been sentenced to a cell.  Deprived from human touch or interaction she counts the days away writing on her notebook and dreaming about a flying bird.  In this future our world has been destroyed by poor ecologic conservation.  Animals are dissapearing being extinguished.  Food is scarce and the fight for power has been taken by  the Reestablishment.

A group of people who claimed to be the regimen to establish peace and balance to the chaos.  The only thing they have really brought has been death and destruction.  Only to be the only ones in power.

In this journey Juliette meets an old friend from childhood Adam who is the only one that has shown her compassion.

This boy she finds saves her from her doom as the leader of the Regimen entraps her only to use her as a weapon against her will.

I absolutely love how the characters relationship develops.  How we see the characters grow and mature along the story.  Turning scared and helpless Juliet into a fierce young woman who will fight for love and what is right.

Loving science fiction, I absolutely was intrigued by the ending of this installment.  There are more humans like her, people with abilities who use their powers to protect and restore.

What is next for our heroine?  Well have to wait and see but Tahereh I tip my hat to you.  You have created a breathtaking and intriguing world I want to find out more about.

Cannot wait from Spring 2012!

I give Shatter Me 5 hearts!
