YA News Round Up

Hey There!

I wanted to do something different today.  Instead of having my usual Book Cover Friday I am going to do a round up of everything that has happened or caught my attention this past week in the Young Adult lit world.

Movies Update

The Mortal Instruments - City of Bones Movie

This movie began the filming process on 8/20 and many fans have headed to the Toronto set to meet their movie idols and get a glimpse on the movie magic as it happens.  I am a Cassie Clare fan and since that first day of filming I have been searching for pictures and updates from fellow readers of the series.

Sony Pictures shared an exclusive production still on the official MORTAL INSTRUMENTS movie Facebook page that gives fans a first look at the City of Bones.

It's called City of Bones right?

Beautiful Creatures Movie

I cannot wait to see how this movie turns out.  If you have not read Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl you better do so very soon.  This movie wrapped filming and will hit the big screen early next year and boy does it promises surprises.

Below are some pictures I have gathered that were shared via twitter & facebook.

Every Thursday I search the web for the best book trailers out there.  I always like a book trailer that hints on what the book it is about but leaves a little mystery definitely sending you straight to the book store to get it.  I have noticed a trend lately and it is that these keep getting better and better. More creative, better visuals and actual actors.  Here are some book trailers for you to enjoy this week:

Pretty Crooked by Elisa Ludwig

GLITCH by Heather Anastasiu

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

Covet by Melissa Darnell Review

Covet by Melissa Darnell

Dangerous to be together. Painful to be apart.Savannah Colbert knows she broke up with Tristan Coleman for the right reasons. Most of all, to keep from killing him with her new vampire abilities. But try telling her heart. Now, lost in a sea of hostile Clann faces, Sav tries to come to terms with what she's becoming and what that means for her future. And that someone is doing their best to bully her into making a terrible mistake.

Tristan can't believe Sav won't even talk to him. If being apart is her decision, fine. Just don't expect him to honor it. But even as he prepares to fight for the girl he loves, forces beyond their control take them both in directions neither could have foreseen or prepared for.

A reckoning is coming…and not everyone will survive.

A Summary of the story ...

In Crave, Savannah has to struggle with "the change"  in more ways than one.  Her body, her mind and life are constantly changing.  She is a strong girl and determines to face every threat and opportunity life has thrown at her with her head held high.

Covet is entirely different at first is heart breaking and you completely feel for Savannah. Though devastated, Savannah's will fight with her life to save Tristen's life from her coven by letting go.  But our boy is ready to fight back for their right to stay together.

In the end, they are forced to break up and forced to attend the same school.  They are constantly watched and cruelty breaks loose from haters.  Will they turn on each other to support their clans or will they follow their hearts and stay together?

My thoughts ...

Covet is book two in The Clan series by Melissa Darnell. The first book was amazing and I so wanted to read this sequel.  I was disappointed with the cover of this sequel, it is not attactive at all and if you have read my Book Cover Friday posts you know that this is very important for me.  If I had seen this book on a store I would have probably kept walking which is sad.

I wasn't disappointed with this story. Darnell as usually drags you into the story the way she describes the details help get a clear picture of what's going on.

The story is like a vampire Romeo & Juliet.    The story is fresh, fun and powerful.  Beautifully done. I would recommend this to any YA reader. Amazing ending. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I give this book three out of five hearts.

Dante's Girl by Courtney Cole Review

 Dante's Girl by Courtney Cole

I have spent every summer since I was ten years old with my father in London. Every summer, since I was ten years old, has been uneventful and boring.
Until this year.

And this year, after a freak volcanic eruption strands me far from home, I have learned these things:

1. I can make do with one outfit for three days before I buy new clothes.
2. If I hear the phrase, “You’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto,” even one more time, I might become a homicidal maniac.
3. I am horribly and embarrassingly allergic to jellyfish.
4. I am in love with Dante Giliberti, who just happens to be the beautiful, sophisticated son of the Prime Minister of a Mediterranean paradise.
5. See number four above. Because it brings with it a whole slew of problems and I’ve learned something from every one of them.

Let’s start with the fact that Dante’s world is five light-years away from mine. He goes to black-tie functions and knows the Prime Minister of England on a first name basis. I was born and raised on a farm in Kansas and wear cut-off jeans paired with cowboy boots. See the difference?

But hearts don’t care about differences. Hearts want what they want. And mine just wants to be Dante’s girl.

My heart just might be crazy.

Summary of the book ...

Reece is on her way to London to stay with her father as she usually does every summer.  She is not happy about it but she is at the airport waiting for a connecting flight when she runs into Dante.

Immediately she feels drawn to him by his looks but to her surprise once on the plane he gives us his spacious first class seat to spend time with her.  When something unexpected happens Dante becomes Reece's savior and gets her out of the plane and away from the threat.

But Dante has a secret and something does not seem right to her....

My thoughts ...

This book was absolutely adorable and felt like a Disney fairytale.  I liked it so much I didn't even realized that I had just finished.

Dante is amazingly interesting and I would love to read something from his point of view.  Find out what was going on that instant he first saw her.

Even though these two are from very opposite worlds something keeps them together and love will conquer all.  Their friendship blossoms into love and magic happens.

I love the whole idea behind the the story, the young summer love that finally ends up becoming more that just that.  Blossoming into something deep and promising.  out to be more than just a fling. Dante is the dashing prince in the shinning armor that every

Dante is a sensitive and affectionate and even though his life has been literally planned he will take a risk for his sunflower girl from Kansas.

I give this story 4 out of 5 hearts.

The Rules by Stacey

1. Never trust anyone.

2. Remember they are always searching.

3. Don’t get involved.

4. Keep your head down.

5. Don’t fall in love.

Five simple rules. Ariane Tucker has followed them since the night she escaped from the genetics lab where she was created, the result of combining human and extraterrestrial DNA. Ariane’s survival—and that of her adoptive father—depends on her ability to blend in among the full-blooded humans, to hide in plain sight from those who seek to recover their lost (and expensive) “project.”

But when a cruel prank at school goes awry, it puts her in the path of Zane Bradshaw, the police chief’s son and someone who sees too much. Someone who really sees her. After years of trying to be invisible, Ariane finds the attention frightening—and utterly intoxicating. Suddenly, nothing is simple anymore, especially not the rules…
