Mara Dyer once believed she could run from her past.

She can’t.

She used to think her problems were all in her head.
They aren’t.

She couldn’t imagine that after everything she’s been through, the boy she loves would still be keeping secrets.

She’s wrong.

In this gripping sequel to The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, the truth evolves and choices prove deadly. What will become of Mara Dyer next?

My Teaser:

"Should I go?" I asked.

His hand was still on my face, and his touch was impossibly soft. "You should."

I wasn't about to beg. I broke away from him and reached for the door.

"But don't," he said, right when I touched it.

                                                   ***

Noah traced the length of my arm and held my hand.  ”We don’t have to do anything, Mara,”  he said softly as my eyes began to close.  I wanted to curl up in his voice and live there.  ”This truly is enough.”
I had one final thought before I slipped into sleep.

"Anna Whitt, daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a claim. She’d been naive about a lot of things. Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.
When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?"

Waiting on Wednesday Just One day By Gayle Forman

Just One Day
Author: Gayle Forman
Publisher: Dutton Juvenile
Expected publication: January 8, 2013

From Goodreads:
A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay.

When sheltered American good girl Allyson "LuLu" Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

Just One Day is the first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem’s story—Just One Year—is coming soon!

Review House of Night - Hidden by PC Cast

Hidden (House of Night #10)

Neferet’s true nature has been revealed to the Vampyre High Council, so Zoey and the gang might finally get some help in defending themselves and their beloved school against a gathering evil that grows stronger every day. And they’ll need it, because Neferet’s not going down without a fight. Chaos reigns at the House of Night

Published October 16th 2012 by St. Martin's Griffin

My summary...

Hidden is the 10th book in the House of Night series. It all begins right after Neferet was exposed to the High Council. The academy is in total absolute chaos over everything that has happened. Zoey and her friends are still working on making sense of everything but Neferet is still plotting her evil ways.

Thank god that Zoe and Stark are still together.  Somehow these to are puzzle pieces an together they make a kick ass team.  Aprhodite is still her snarky old self and doesn't care about what any body else thinks.  The red fledglings are finally become a part of the puzzle and they have developed powerful powers that simply are simply intriguing.   I absolutely love Grandma Redbird she is an amazing character in the series.

My thoughts ...

The book was a bit slow at first.  I would have loved to have more action in this sequel but there was a lot of plotting and planning to get rid of Neferet.  Somehow she always a way to hurt our hero.  Kalona and Aurox are quite interesting to me.  It might be the fact that my favorite character in the entire series was Heath and a part of him is in Aurox.   I thought I hated Kalona but this one changed my mind.

Let me tell you I wanted to die because the really good action is right at the end.  Of course now I have to wait another year to find out There is enough action towards the end, and twist to keep my interest. Zoey now has a whole new set of problems to deal with. We are left with somewhat of a cliffhanger, so I certainly pick up the next book in the series to see what is going to happen. If you are a fan of the House of Night series, you won't be disappointed. I would definitely say give this one a try.

Lindsey's Choice by Laurel Peterson

If only I had cared about Deirdre being bullied...

If only I had told my parents the truth...

If only I had said no...

Would my life have turned out differently?

Lindsey Connors is a typical 16 year old. As with many young girls her age, she is presented with many difficult choices and situations. As we know as adults, some of the choices, good or bad, we make at a young and vulnerable age may guide the rest of our lives.

Are you ready for the fun and unique part? This story is interactive. It allows the reader to participate in Lindseyʼs Choices. Live through Lindsey! It is tailored so the reader can control the direction of Lindseyʼs journey toward maturity.

The first tough decision confronting Lindsey is whether to start drinking alcohol at a party. Does she give in to the peer pressure and be accepted by the popular crowd or does she decide to stay with her old friends?

The reader can identify with Lindsey and her friends and can think about what they would do in the situations presented to Lindsey. The reader can see that with each choice Lindsey makes, her life is changed, she changes, and her choices have a profound impact on the people around her.

Following the initial decision Lindsey makes, the story then branches into two story lines. Lindsey continues to be faced with many new and challenging obstacles: a friendship with a bullied and suicidal student, peer pressure to take drugs, and challenges in relationships. How can Lindsey pursue her passions and not get caught sitting on the sidelines? Read how with making certain choices she realizes what is important in life OR read how with making different choices she lets life pass her by.

This book enables the reader to make choices in a fictional world, in order to assist them in making the right decisions in their own lives.

So please vote for our city of Orlando, Florida once voting is open to everyone.  I will post the link on the blog for you guys once it goes live.

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Red by Alison Cherry

Published date - October 8th, 2013 (Delacorte)

Felicity St. John has it all—loyal best friends, a hot guy, and artistic talent. And she’s right on track to win the Miss Scarlet pageant. Her perfect life is possible because of just one thing: her long, wavy, coppery red hair.

Having red hair is all that matters in Scarletville. Redheads hold all the power—and everybody knows it. That’s why Felicity is scared down to her roots when she receives an anonymous note:

I know your secret.

Because Felicity is a big fake. Her hair color comes straight out of a bottle. And if anyone discovered the truth, she’d be a social outcast faster than she could say "strawberry blond." Her mother would disown her, her friends would shun her, and her boyfriend would dump her. And forget about winning that pageant crown and the prize money that comes with it—money that would allow her to fulfill her dream of going to art school.

Felicity isn’t about to let someone blackmail her life away. But just how far is she willing to go to protect her red cred?

Hidden - House of Night #10 is out today!

This is by far one of my favorite series.  I am so in love with the characters that I eagerly await the release of the new book each year.  I am currently reading Hidden and soon will post a review but for now I will leave you with the book trailer and a little information about the series.

In the must-read tenth installment of the #1 New York Times bestselling vampyre series, Darkness won’t stay hidden for long… “Move over Stephenie Meyer.” –People

The House of Night series is an international phenomenon, reaching #1 on U.S., German, and UK bestseller lists, and remaining a fixture on the New York Times Children’s Series bestseller list for more than 140 weeks and counting. With nearly 12 million copies in print, rights sold in thirty-eight countries to date, and relatable, addictive characters, this series is unstoppable. Now in Hidden, the tenth installment of the series, the stakes are higher than ever before.

Neferet’s true nature has been revealed to the Vampyre High Council, so Zoey and the gang might finally get some help in defending themselves and their beloved school against a gathering evil that grows stronger every day. And they’ll need it, because Neferet’s not going down without a fight. Chaos reigns at the House of Night.

Teaser Tuesday - Carnival of Souls by Melissa Marr

This week we’re sharing a little tease from Carnival of Souls by Melissa Marr.

In a city of daimons, rigid class lines separate the powerful from the power-hungry. And at the heart of The City is the Carnival of Souls, where both murder and pleasure are offered up for sale. Once in a generation, the carnival hosts a deadly competition that allows every daimon a chance to join the ruling elite. Without the competition, Aya and Kaleb would both face bleak futures–if for different reasons. For each of them, fighting to the death is the only way to try to live.

All Mallory knows of The City is that her father–and every other witch there–fled it for a life in exile in the human world. Instead of a typical teenage life full of friends and maybe even a little romance, Mallory scans quiet streets for threats, hides herself away, and trains to be lethal. She knows it’s only a matter of time until a daimon finds her and her father, so she readies herself for the inevitable. While Mallory possesses little knowledge of The City, every inhabitant of The City knows of her. There are plans for Mallory, and soon she, too, will be drawn into the decadence and danger that is the Carnival of Souls.

My Teaser:

Adam lifted his head. “I’d sooner die–and he’d kill me either way. They don’t think like witches, Mals, and he’s their ruler. It would be a sign of weakness to let me live.”

“There was to be another option,” she insisted. “Our choices are run or die? That’s it? Maybe you can have someone else return it to them. Evelyn is strong and–”

What mysteries will your teaser rev

After Eden (Fallen Angels, Book 1) by Katherine Pine

Devi knows she shouldn't trust the new employee at her favorite used bookstore. Sure, he's funny, smart and hands down the sexiest guy she's ever met, but something dark lurks behind his unassuming smile and sinful green eyes.

Still, a girl can't always afford to be picky. When an angel abducts your twin brother it should come as no surprise that the one person who can help you get him back is a demon--and only if you're willing to pay his price.

Excerpt:

"You will do anything I ask," I whispered. The words hung in the air, a mantra spoken to the dark. His eyes lost focus and glowed softly as they narrowed in on my lips.

"Maybe this kind of devotion is sinful," I continued. "Perhaps it was even the origin of sin. But you and I are already damned."

He blinked, and the corners of his eyes began to glisten. Tears, I realized. They took on an emerald sheen from the heated look he gave me. I wiped his cheeks with my hands, drying those tears--erasing them. "Why are you the one crying now?"

"I just, I never thought..." He ran a finger up the side of my neck and brushed a strand of hair behind my ear. My body tightened. "Will you let me?"

Before I could tell him how stupid he was being, he crashed his mouth into mine.

Review - The Secret of Ella and Micha by Jessica Sorensen

*** This book contains mature content.  Strongly recommended for 17 and over

Ella and Micha have been best friends since they were kids. But one tragic night shatters their friendship and their lives forever.

Ella used to be a rule-breaker with fiery attitude who wore her heart on her sleeve. But she left everything behind when she went to college and transformed into someone that follows the rules, keeps everything together, and hides all her problems. But now it's summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home.

Ella fears everything she worked so hard to bury might resurface, especially with Micha living right next door. If Micha tries to tempt the old her back, she knows that it will be hard to resist.

Micha is sexy, smart, confident, and can get under Ella’s skin like no one else can. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. And he’s determined to bring his best friend, and the girl he loves back, no matter what it takes.

My Summary

Ella and Micha have been friends since childhood. They have shared many moments and have secrets no one else knows. When Ella's mother commits suicide Ella is destroyed and the guilt is nearly driving her crazy. One night as she was sulking in remorse and the concern that she might be manic depressive just like her mother she does something really stupid.

At that precise moment Micha comes to save her just as he always does but they cross that friendship line that has save them from regret. Scared Ella leaves her town leaving everyone wondering where she went. She didn't tell her father, brother or even Micha.

Eight months later Ella comes back to town with her new roommate. She has been away at college but no one knows this except for new best friend who also has no idea of her past. Ella has been hiding from her past but not for long as a school break pushes her back into the arms of her scary past.

My Summary

I absolutely love stories that pull me in right away and that amazing cover is beautiful.  I was sucked into the story after the first page wanting to know what Ella's secret was and this boy that had been her life Micha.   When Ella returns to town their first encounter is filled with sexual tension and angst it was like waiting for an explosion to happen.  Phew! I was so invested in this story it was crazy.

Micha is dark and intriguing a bad boy with a secret. Who doesn't like bad boys. What I loved about this story is who it kept me guessing what had happened in the past that had pushed our Ella to hide and changes so drastically

The characters introduction was perfect you get to know everyone in the story and what has happened to them they all are key instruments in our story. It has a lot of elements that made it a page turner and of course I read it in one day could not put it down.

I give this story 5 hearts

Review - Mouch and Company: The Dream Psychic

Being a teenager is tough enough, but try it when you have schizophrenia and psychic abilities that make all of your imaginary friends real... The odds are against Mouch-he's locked up in Talsom Mental Asylum; his only friends are a sock puppet and his shadow. Worst of all, he suffers from amnesia; his earliest memory is of being found alone in a mall wearing nothing but a pair of polka-dotted boxer shorts, a pair of fluffy white bunny slippers, and a hat made from a newspaper.... and covered in a generous amount of blood. When an elderly gentleman visits him and reveals that Mouch is not crazy but is actually a psychic, Mouch does what any rational person would do-he runs for the door. Once outside of Talsom, Mouch soon finds himself thrust into a battle against a sinister movement of dark psychics who threaten to destroy the entire psychic community.

My Summary

Mouch and Company is a story about a schizophrenic boy that has psychic abilities. His best friends are very different from what you expect. The interactions between the characters was well written and my favorite is Sherman (a sock puppet) yes you read that right.

The story evolves into an epic fight against evil when Mouch has to fight to survive and defeat the dark psychics that want to destroy him and every other like him.

My Thoughts

I was amazed when I first started reading at how fast the story pulled me in.  I have never read a graphic novel before and I think I absolutely love them.  This story is a page turner and you will not stop laughing.  It is witty, funny and exciting to read.

This story has it all it’s a combination of fantasy and supernatural.  It will keep the reader pulled into the story and create a bond with each of the characters.  You will find yourself pulling for our hero and his journey to save the world good psychics.

Their personal demons would be left behind once and for all.
It was the only thing they could count on.
It was all she had.
Madison Hanson has spent the last four years being a "shadow." Her parents ignore her. The students at her school stopped talking to her years ago, and the majority of her teachers forget she's even there. In her desperate yearning to leave her invisible life behind, Madison makes a pact with her only friend, James Garrison, to end their lives as inconspicuously as they live them. No fuss, no muss. No one would miss her and she would miss no one. Their plan is set, and it's all she can count on. That is, until fellow student, Mitch Peterson, beats them to the punch. Everything Madison believed in is shaken to the core when she watches the aftermath of Mitch's death unfold. By taking his own life, Mitch unwittingly saves hers. What a selfish prick.
She is now left with the daunting task of living. Trying to bury her demons once and for all, and finally trusting someone with her fragile existence.
Living is hell.
Death would have been so much easier.

"Books provide the ultimate getaway for me. A good story is a vehicle that takes you to another place, another time, or another world. I love reading the words and letting my imagination do the rest. I appreciate and respect every author who has the courage to put your work out there for the world to see."
