When sixteen year old Poppy Douglas writes a song about her
ex-boyfriend Cam and ex-friend Nikki, she has no idea that her heartbreak is
about to go global.
A local band picks up her song from You tube and soon she’s along for the ride with her own fan base as they blow up on the local club scene and hit the international charts. Though it turns out leaving Cam behind isn’t as easy as she had hoped.
Tangled in a web of unfinished homework, ill-considered sexting and a new lead-singer boyfriend, Poppy has a choice to make between the ex that inspired it all and the rock God whose poster lines the inside of half the lockers at school. But as she struggles to keep her emotional dirty laundry private, she learns that the truth can be hard to find when your life is in the headlines.
My Summary …
Have you ever been cheated on? Of course you have and I can
imagine what you wanted to do to get even.
Well our main character Poppy Douglas is betrayed by her high school
boyfriend Cam.
Enraged and heartbroken she puts pen to pare and writes a song about
it.
With her BFF accomplice (Vanya) she records herself singing
such song and titles it The Kiss Off (very appropriate name). After they are done editing the video is uploaded
to her You Tube channel named PoppyLongStocking. Before she knows it the video has gone viral
and becomes a success.
Content with the outcome of her video she continues with her
life as normal until she meets super hottie Ty.
After a very awkward introduction Ty turns out to be the lead singer for
a band called Academy of Lies.
When he introduces her to his friends and they realize that she is the
infamous PoppyLongStocking they offer to sing her song.
Something starts brewing between Ty and our Poppy but her
sneaky ex Cams keeps popping in and out of the story complication things a bit.
My thoughts…
The Kiss Off completely took me by
surprise. The character development was
flawless and I loved the way each relationship was built. It was easy to fall in love with Ty and hate Cam’s guts.
I felt for Poppy. I mean who hasn’t been cheated on? The good message here is to use your creative
outlets to overcome anger. Write a song,
write a story but don’t do anything illegal.
I also loved the fact that this story has a very delicate matter in
which our main character is involved.
Sexting is something that many teenagers face on a daily basis without
understanding the consequences that may come in the future.
The Kiss off is a refreshing story about coming of age that
will leave you wanting for more.
I would like to thank the author Sarah
Billington for allowing me to read this book and spreading the love for
it. I can’t wait for the sequel and more Ty
hotness.
About the Author…
Sarah
Billington is an Australian writer and editor who likes to write stories
with love, laughs, suspense and zombies. Sometimes all in the same story. Her
favouritest thing to write about are those horrendously awkward moments that
come with being a teenager. Or a human being. Sarah was extremely
accident-prone and klutzy as a kid and teen, so her cup runneth over with experiences
of horrendously awkward moments to draw from in her writing. Thankfully, she
has grown out of her klutziness. Mostly. She is, however, still an
embarrassment.
She loves
a variety of random things, which include Swing Dancing, Ice Hockey, Roller Derby
and is a bit obsessive about paranormal investigation shows and channel E!.
